Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) legislator Rakhi Birla's sister-in-law Priyanka filed a domestic violence case against her husband here, police said on Monday.

Priyanka filed the case at Delhi's Rohini (south) police station on Sunday night accusing Rakhi's brother Vikram Birla of beating her for the last two months.

She shared her ordeal with reporters outside the police station and said: "... I have two children but incidents of physical violence have gone up in the last two months. I filed a complaint because I can't take it anymore."

On Monday, Priyanka's in-laws and police tried to counsel her to compromise with her husband and withdraw her complaint but she did not do so.

Finally, police started a probe into the incident.

In her complaint to police, the woman said that her husband would beat her with a belt as she started objecting to his illicit relationship with another woman.

Senior police officials were tight-lipped over the issue.

When contacted, legislator Rakhi Birla washed her hands of the whole controversy, claiming that she has nothing to do with her borther and supports the victim

"I have nothing to do with this dispute. I have nothing to do with the family and my two brothers. Whoever is guilty should be punished and I am with the woman," Rakhi said.

A few days ago, the young MLA from Mongolpuri in Delhi landed in the middle of a controversy involving a brand new Scorpio which was reportedly gifted to her on her birthday.
