Actor Ben Stiller says nowadays film studios are not headed by people who appreciate creativity, and feels making money has become a bigger focus.
"I don't know why the studios have become so adverse to making interesting films and taking chances. I guess it's about money," variety.com quoted Stiller as saying.
He added: "These studios are owned by big conglomerates and they're not independent studios making films. They have a huge profit margin, so they make movies that can make a lot of money. Unfortunately, that means the really good interesting movies aren't getting made."
Stiller is essaying the role of half brother to actor Adam Sandler's character in Netflix comedy "The Meyerowitz Stories".
The cast of "The Meyerowitz Stories" spoke on the ongoing controversy around friction between traditional studios and streaming services like Netflix, at the Cannes Film Festival.
Stiller said if the studios are unhappy with Netflix making "inroads on their territory" then they have no one to blame but themselves.
"The Meyerowtiz Stories" will compete for the Palme d'Or - the highest prize awarded at the festival.
