About a dozen persons, including some policemen, were injured on Monday after communal violence erupted in Baghpat district of Uttar Pradesh, police said.
The clash started on a minor issue at the Laxman Chwok in the Ketipura locality provoking people from both sides to pelt each other with stones. Reports said warring sides also used sticks and sharp weapons.
Two policemen and eleven others have sustained serious injuries in the clash, reports said.
Senior police and district officials, including Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Rajesh Kumar Srivastava, rushed to the spot with additional police force and controlled the mob.
While the exact reason of the violence is yet to be ascertained, one side has accused the other of robbing a shop.
Additional force has been deployed in the area and vigil has been stepped up to stem escalation, an official told IANS.
