The Election CommissionTuesday issued a notice to BJP leader Giriraj Singh for his remark that critics and opponents of BJP's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi are "pro-Pakistan" and the neighbouring country is the place for those opposing him.
Holding that Giriraj Singh had violated the model code of conduct by making the remarks, the commission gave him time till April 24 to explain his stand.
"The commission is, prima facie, of the opinion that by making the statements you have violated the provisions of model code of conduct. Now, therefore, the commission gives you an opportunity to explain your stand in making the above said statement before 5 p.m. of April 24," it said.
The commission Monday ordered the Patna district administration to lodge an FIR against the Bharatiya Janata Party leader.
