Around 1,600 persons were detained on Saturday as the two-day economic blockade called by the JVM-P began in Jharkhand.
Hundreds of JVM-P workers were arrested for trying to block roads and railway services in different parts of the state.
The blockade has been called by the party to protest against the domicile policy notified by the Raghubar Das government.
The agitation has hit transportation of minerals including iron ore and bauxite. Loading and despatch of coal across the state has been also been affected.
However, shops, business establishments, schools and colleges remained open.
Jharkhand Vikas Morcha-Prajatantrik President Babulal Marandi said the blockade has been successful.
"The first day of the economic blockade has been successful despite repressive measures adopted by the state government," Marandi said. "Transportation of iron ore, bauxite, coal and other minerals has stopped as people supported the blockade," he added.
The blockade has been supported by the Congress, the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha of Shibu Soren and other opposition parties.
The state government has deployed security forces to deal with the blockade.
