Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi has inaugurated a slew of developmental projects, including over 8,000 social housing units as well as water treatment and sanitation projects, across the country.
El Sisi inaugurated the 32 new projects in 19 governorates via video conference on Thursday, an official statement said.
The projects included 8,688 social housing units in Badr City at a cost of pounds 1.1 billion; social housing projects in a number of governorates; as well as water treatment and sanitation projects. The president also inaugurated projects in the sector of transport, road and bridge construction and railways.
During the inauguration ceremony, President El Sisi said that his government places great importance on the development of slums, particularly unsafe areas. He emphasized that the government will offer proper and decent housing to citizens in order to ensure them a decent life for them and their families.
El Sisi gave directions to complete the housing units within two years instead of three. He said the development of slum areas will cost pounds 14 billion, for which the state will partially contribute.
He noted that planning for the new Menya and new Assyout cities was completed according to the highest standards followed in the establishment of the new administrative capital. New Menya and new Assyout cities will integrate with the project for the reclamation and development of one and a half million acres.
He also gave directions to the armed forces and the ministry of interior to stop any infringement of lands on both sides of newly constructed roads, and stressed that all violations will be removed within one month, said a statement.
