Bollywood director Milan Luthria, who has worked on three projects with producer Ekta Kapoor, says it is because they give each other creative space and respect each other's opinion that their professional camaraderie is as wonderful as it is.
Luthria's past directorials - "Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai" and "The Dirty Picture" - were produced under Ekta's home banner Balaji Motion Pictures. His next project "Once Upon Ay Time In Mumbai Dobaara!" too is produced by her.
"We have made three films together and we could not have done that if we didn't get along. But we are also very strong-minded people, and are extremely possessive about our work and volatile sometimes. But we have learnt to give each other space and respect each other's talent, hard work and commitment," Luthria told IANS.
He said they bring out the best in each other.
"We bring out the best in each other and sometimes when we argue we bring out the worst in each other. We understand that when you deal with an experienced person, there will be a counter point, that is good. We are constantly looking for flaws in our own work and look to do better," he said.
Luthria is also happy that Ekta has a lot of trust and confidence in him.
"She is a good producer. We have trust and confidence in each other. She is good at marketing and good at letting me do the rest of the job," he said.
That is why he admits that his "last (two) films have defined my career".
"These films will always be remembered as the starting of the best phase of my life," he said.
