The BJP's victory in Assam and its showing in the other four states "is a stamp on the performance" of the Narendra Modi government, party president Amit Shah said on Thursday.
He described the election results in Assam, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Puducherry as the "new beginning of politics of performance".
"The results are a stamp on two years of performance of the Modi government. Positive politics has won and people have rejected negative politics.
"I see this victory as the new beginning of politics of performance," Shah told a press conference here.
He said the BJP would not only form its government in Assam but it had increased its vote share in Kerala and West Bengal while maintaining the vote percentage in Tamil Nadu and Pudduchery.
"We succeeded in taking politics of development ahead," he said.
Shah took on the Congress, saying voters had punished them for obstructing development in the country.
"Making different excuses they (Congress) tried to stall development of the country. In these elections Congress was the only looser," Shah said.
He also took on the Left and the DMK for joining hands with the Congress.
"Now at least no party will take the risk of going with the Congress."
