An ex-serviceman shot his mother dead over a petty family dispute in Andhra Pradesh on Wednesday, police said.
According to police, Seikh Mastan Vali, who was in an inebriated condition, opened fire at his mother Fazlun (60) in Kommuru village in Guntur district.
Vali recently returned to the village after taking voluntary retirement from the army.
A habitual drunkard, he was frequently picking up quarrels with family members.
On Wednesday, he had a fight with his mother over some petty issue. He took out a double barrel gun and shot his mother in her head, resulting in her instant death.
Police arrested Valid and seized the gun. They are trying to verify if Vali had a licence for the firearm.
