Two youths were arrested and fake Indian currency notes (FICN) of face value Rs 1.37 lakh were seized from them in a joint operation by the Border Security Force (BSF) and the police in West Bengal's Malda district.

BSF sources said acting on a tip-off, the troopers of 24th Battalion of BSF (second headquarters Malda) and personnel from the Baishnabnagar police station carried out the joint raid at the Farakka PTS crossing on Saturday evening and challenged two persons moving suspiciously.

Three bundles of FICN of the face value of Rs 1,37,000, concealed with black plastic in laptop bag were seized after the duo was detained and physically searched.

Two mobile phones with SIM cards were also seized from them, the sources said.

During preliminary questioning, the two young men revealed their identity as Subroto Mondal, 18, and Palash Mondal, 20. Both were residents of Khutipara village of Malda district.

They were later handed over along with the fake currency notes to personnel of Baishnabnagar police station.

BSF South Bengal Frontier has so far this year seized the FICN of the face value of Rs 1,15,31,000 and apprehended 13 smugglers.
