Farmers owing allegiance to the Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) blocked the Kurukshetra-Saharanpur highway on Thursday seeking immediate acceptance of their demands, which include hike in the minimum support price (MSP) for crops.
The protesting farmers are demanding the implementation of the Swaminathan Committee report on agriculture sector, including hike in the minimum support price (MSP) for crops.
The farmers are also seeking the withdrawal of the land acquisition bill being brought by the central government.
The district authorities and police rushed reinforcements to lift the blockade on the highway.
The decision for the protest was taken at a mahapanchayat (congregation) of farmers, under the banner of the BKU held in Kurukshetra, 110 km from here, earlier on Thursday.
