The Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI) will pay tribute to late Prabuddha Dasgupta, who redefined Indian fashion photography with his intense monochromatic images. A retrospective of his works will be showcased at the forthcoming Amazon India Fashion Week Spring Summer 2016 (AIFW SS) here.

The five-day fashion gala will be held from October 7 at the NSIC Grounds here, while the retrospective exhibition will be held from October 8-11 at the same venue. As many as 36 of his works will be displayed.

Born in 1956, Dasgupta was a self-taught photographer, who grew up in the cultural chaos of post-colonial India. He pursued a variety of photographic projects.

Be it a collection of portraits and nudes of urban Indian women or portraits of the Catholic community in Goa - he brought in a bold and individualistic sensibility to his work. He breathed his last on August 12, 2012.

Sunil Sethi, president of FDCI, which organises the AICW, takes pride in presenting Dasgupta's work.

"We are extremely grateful to Dasgupta's estate and family who have facilitated the use of these photographs for this exhibition. They have generously allowed us the use of these pictures for non-commercial purposes after the exhibition and they will be displayed at a fashion design college," Sethi said in a statement.

Dasgupta's work has been exhibited and published both in India and around the world. His last personal show titled "Longing" was held in New York in 2007.
