Delhi Metro Tuesday said the first section of its third phase - connecting Central Secretariat and Mandi House - will open for the public June 26 as it has received the mandatory safety clearance.
Urban Development Minister M. Venkaiah Naidu will flag off the train's inaugural run from the Mandi House station at 9.30 a.m. on June 26, officials said.
"The Central Secretariat-Mandi House section has received the mandatory safety clearance from the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) and the line is expected to be opened for commercial service for the public this week itself," said a statement from Delhi Metro.
The three-km underground corridor has two stations - Janpath and Mandi House. It is expected to cater to 70,000 additional commuters.
Mandi House station will provide interchange facility with the currently operational Dwarka Sector 21 to Noida City Centre line.
This line will save a lot of time for commuters who want to go to Central Secretariat and will also ease pressure on Rajiv Chowk station that hosts lakhs of passengers daily.
The third phase of Delhi Metro is slated to be completed by the end of 2016.
