Ghaziabad police have nabbed five criminals who committed a robbery at Murad Nagar here on April 10 and recovered Rs.8.5 lakh in cash along with other articles from their possession, police said on Sunday.
Superintendant of Police (rural) R.P. Pandey said that on April 10 the accused robbed Rs.10 lakh from one Yusuf, a resident of Meerut.
Police started investigation and, during checking of vehicles on April 11, spotted three motorcycles coming from Shahbeer bridge here. On being asked to stop for checking, the suspects speeded up and tried to dodge the police. But after covering a few metres, the motorcycle-riders lost balance and slipped and were duly apprehended.
During interrogation, the accused -- Sazid, Shahzad, Dilshad, Naushad and Rashid -- confessed to their crime and said that they were neighbours of Yusuf. After coming to know that he had sold his Meerut house and was taking the money to Khoda colony, they started followed him.
They eventually managed to rob him near Murad Nagar. When Yusuf tried to oppose them, they fired at him due to which he sustained a bullet injury in his leg.
The police recovered from the accused two pistols, two live cartridges, one knife and two motorcycles apart from the cash.
