BJP parliamentarian Meenakshi Lekhi Thursday met Home Minister Rajnath Singh and demanded the formation of a committee of MPs to work on women's security following the rape of a young woman in the capital by a cab driver.

"Security of women is a multi-faceted problem which has to be dealt with carefully and in detail. We need to put in place a transparent system where women are able to lodge complaints through the social media against erring drivers following which their licences should be cancelled," Lekhi said.

Lekhi, the Lok Sabha member from New Delhi, met Rajnath Singh along with former Delhi mayor Rajni Abbi.

She said self-defence classes for girls should be made part of school and college curriculum.

According to Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Delhi unit president Satish Upadhyay, a committee consisting of the party's women leaders has been formed that will go around the city and ask for suggestions from working women on how to make Delhi safer.

"A detailed report listing the problems and possible solutions will then be submitted to the home ministry," Abbi said.

A driver of international taxi booking service Uber was arrested for raping a 25-year-old woman business analyst in his cab while dropping her home in north Delhi Dec 5.

Following the incident, the government banned all activities by Uber in the capital and also blacklisted the firm from providing transport services in Delhi in future.

Delhi Police has also filed a case against Uber.
