Former CPI-M MP Nurul Huda died here on Thursday, family sources said. He was 86.
Huda suffered a massive heart attack on Tuesday and slipped into coma. He had been admitted to the Ruby Hospital with bronchitis about a week back.
A central committee member of the Communist Party of India-Marxist, Huda is survived by his wife Chobi. He was a leader of the All India Kisan Sabha and hailed from Assam.
Huda was jailed during the Emergency period of 1975-77, party activists said.
Huda was a member of Assam assembly from 1978 to 1983. He was elected from Silchar, defeating then Janata Party candidate Kabindra Purkayastha, currently a Bharatiya Janata Party leader.
