Ghana's health ministry Monday signed a MoU with India's Apollo Hospitals Group to develop tertiary health care services in the west African country and specialized medical treatment for patients in its institutions here.
The agreement was signed by Ghanian Deputy Health Minister Victor Asare Bampoe and Apollo Hospitals CEO, Central Region, Hari Prasad.
Apollo will advise Ghana in revamping its healthcare system and laying a foundation for strong and comprehensive tertiary care services. It will also treat patients referred for advanced care at its hospitals in Chennai, Hyderabad, Delhi, Ahmedabad, Kolkatta and Bangalore, said a statement by Apollo Hospitals.
Apollo consultants will conduct cardiology, oncology, orthopedics, nephrology, neurosurgery and paediatric specialty clinics in Ghana.
Medical and paramedical personnel in Ghana will also be trained.
Apollo will assist in identifying gaps in current healthcare facilities including infrastructure, equipment and skills at the Korle Bu Hospital in Accra and other government-run hospitals.
Apollo Hospitals will be linked through telemedicine with hospitals in Ghana for free super specialty consultations, for a period of two years, the statement added.
