Railway Minister Piyush Goyal suddenly fell ill and was admitted to the Breach Candy Hospital here on Wednesday evening, officials said.
The minister, who was on a brief visit to the city, was at the Central Railway headquarters when he complained of severe stomach and throat pain.
A Railway medical team and an ambulance were summoned but he chose to walk to his car and drove to the hospital.
On Monday night, officials said he was doing fine.
Earlier this afternoon, Goyal visited Elphinstone Road railway station to take stock of the status the construction of foot overbridge there, being built by the Indian Army engineering teams.
"We discussed the work-in-progress. We are hopeful the foot overbridge will be completed before the schedule of January 31. A fresh tender has been awarded for constructing a new 12 metre footover bridge, giving commuters two options," he told media.
Later, he held a series of meetings with Western Railway and Central Railway officials, and was due to address a media conference which was cancelled due to his health conditions.
