State-run Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL) will impart aerospace and aviation skills to 520,000 trainees and groom 6,000 trainers to create human capital for the burgeoning sector across the country over the next 10 years.

"We have signed an agreement with the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) to train and certify 520,000 youth and groom 6,000 trainers in the aerospace field over a decade through the sector skill council," HAL chairman and managing director T. Suvarna Raju said in a statement here on Wednesday.

NSDC had set up on September 12, 2012 an aerospace and aviation sector skill council in partnership with HAL, Society of Indian Aerospace Technologies (SIAT) and Industries and Bengaluru Chamber of Industry & Commerce (BCIC) to meet the sector's growing skill sets.

"About 30 courses will be offered over the next three years to impart specific skills required in our sector, which is facing talent shortage in various disciplines," Raju said on the occasion.

The council was registered as a non-profit organisation on September 2014 under the Companies Act, 2013, with 50 percent equity stake by HAL and 25 percent each by SIAT and BCIC.

"We have a challenge to set up new institutes and centres of excellence through the council, which will have a chief executive with a specific role," Raju noted.

Corporates across sectors like Jet Airways, Tata Advanced Systems, Max Aerospace & Aviation, Dynamatic Technologies, Maini Precision Products, National Aeronautical Laboratory, Indian Space Research Organisation have responded to associate with the council for building the skill talent pool.
