While heavy rains on Tuesday provided the national capital with some respite from heat and humidity, the weather office said that Wednesday will see heavy rains.
Tuesday saw an average 4.8 mm of rainfall, however this is expected to rise from Wednesday onwards.
"Heavy rains are expected on Wednesday morning and this would continue till afternoon and in some areas till the evening," officials from India Meteorological Department told IANS.
On Tuesday, the maximum temperature hovered at 35.8 degrees Celsius, a notch above season's average (35.5) while the minimum temperature was 28.6 degrees.
The Tuesday rains also bought the National Capital close to the achieving normal rainfall this year at 233.3 mm.
Delhi has so far seen seven per cent deficient monsoon rain as recorded between June 1 to July 25. About 239 mm of rainfall is considered to be normal while Delhi has so far received 222.6 mm rainfall till Monday.
"Wednesday might see more heavy rains and this would continue increasing for the next few days till the end of July," Mahesh Palawat, Director of Skymet private weather forecaster, told IANS.
On Tuesday, the rain started around 2 p.m. and continued for over an hour, the Indian Meteorological Department said. Rainfall was recorded in Noida, Ghaziabad and parts of Gurgaon.
The rains also caused traffic congestion and water logging in several areas.
"The continuous rainfall for the next few days would bring the rainfall at par with the normal," Palawat added.
The reason of sudden increase in rainfall in Delhi is being attributed to the northwards shift in monsoon trough from Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh.
Monday's maximum temperature was recorded at 34.6 degrees Celsius, while the minimum settled at 28.3 degrees, both a notch above the normal.
