Himachal Pradesh Wednesday decided to get environmental clearance from the central government for establishing two campuses of a central university in the state.
The cabinet at a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh, decided to move its case for clearance from the Forest Conservation Act to the ministry of environment and forests for the establishment of the Central University of Himachal Pradesh as per the recommendation of the site selection committee, a government spokesperson told IANS.
The committee recommended developing campuses at Dharamsala and at Dehra, both in Kangra district, in a phased manner.
The spokesperson said about 160 hectares land was identified in Dharamsala for the main campus and 80 hectares at Dehra.
The university's temporary campus is at Shahpur, some 25 km from Dharamsala.
