The Himachal Pradesh Cabinet, presided over by Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur, on Saturday took several major decisions, including filling up 200 posts of doctors on specific contracts through walk-in interviews to overcome their shortage.

During the meeting, the cabinet also decided to amend a policy of tendering bond money for MBBS students pursuing higher degree.

This is a major relief for the doctors undergoing post-graduation courses, who are facing difficulties in obtaining bank guarantees, a government spokesperson told IANS.

It also approved the deployment of two medical physicists and four radiotherapist technicians on outsource basis at the Government Medical College in Tanda town to operationalise the cancer treatment equipment there.

In other decisions, the cabinet decided to procure four pulses from National Cooperative Consumers' Federation of India Ltd under the subsidised scheme for procurement and distribution.

For this, the Himachal Pradesh State Civil Supplies Corporation Ltd and the consumers' federation will execute a memorandum of understanding. This would help to save Rs 2.63 crore per month, said the spokesperson.

The Cabinet gave its approval to strengthen the Himachal Pradesh Forest Ecosystem Climate Proofing Project being implemented in Chamba and Kangra districts with the assistance from the KFW Development Bank of Germany by providing more requisite staff.

This project is covering 600 panchayats in both districts for minimising and mitigating the negative impacts of climate change by increasing biodiversity and sustained income in rural areas through sustainable management of forest resources.
