The Himachal Pradesh assembly Thursday passed a bill cutting stamp duty on registration of land for women.

The Indian Stamp (Himachal Pradesh Amendment) Bill, 2013 amends Indian Stamp Act, 1899, wherein the existing rate of five percent stamp duty has been brought down to four percent.

The men would, however, have to pay six percent stamp duty against the earlier five percent, as per the amendment.

Revenue Minister Kaul Singh Thakur, who introduced the amendment bill in the house Wednesday, said the bill was a step towards women empowerment.
