A hostel in-charge at a privately-run medical college was on Wednesday arrested on charges of raping a first-year MBBS student in the campus here.
The accused has been identified as Manoj Khuntia, a resident of Athagarh in Cuttack district.
"The accused has been arrested based on the complaint of the victim. The medical examination of both the victim and the accused will be done," police Inspector K.P. Mishra said.
According to police, Khuntia allegedly raped the student on Tuesday night. The man has denied the charge.
He claimed that at around 9 p.m. on Tuesday night, he saw the girl student and her male friend in a compromising position.
"I shouted at them and told that I would complain to the Principal," Khuntia told the media. "Later, I went to my room to sleep. But the police brought me here at around 4 a.m. today."
