The national capital experienced the hottest May 1 after 2010 as the maximum temperature settled four notches above the season's average at 42.8 degrees Celsius, Met officials said.

However, the Met department has forecast a cloudy Friday.

"The sky will be partly cloudy tomorrow (Friday). The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to hover around 42 and 23 degrees Celsius respectively," said an Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) official.

With the temperature crossing the 42 degree-mark, Delhiites are facing a tough time. Those commuting on two-wheelers bore the maximum brunt.

"The temperature refuses to go down. Commuting to office on my motorcycle has become next to impossible," said Dev Nair, 31, an advertising professional.

The day's minimum temperature settled one notch below the season's average at 24.2 degree Celsius.

According to the IMD, the maximum temperature recorded on May 1, 2010, was 42 degrees.
