The Hyderabad High Court on Monday dismissed a petition seeking orders to the central government to direct the Andhra Pradesh and Telangana governor to implement section 8 of the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act.
The section vests special powers in the governor to monitor law and order in Hyderabad, the joint capital of the two states.
The court, while dismissing the petition filed by the Andhra Association of Telangana, observed that it cannot issue the orders as the act does not say that the governor will implement section 8 at New Delhi's direction.
The president of the Andhra Association of Telangana, K. Veera Raghava Reddy, had filed the petition.
He argued that ever since Telangana was formed on June 2 last year, there was a feeling of insecurity among people who hailed from Andhra but were living in Hyderabad.
He said implementation of section 8 alone would give security to people.
The high court also dismissed another petition filed by an advocate, seeking implementation of section 8.
Petitioner P.V. Krishnaiah had also sought a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation into the cash-for-vote scam. The court said the Anti-Corruption Bureau was already probing the case.
