Independiente defeated Instituto de Cordoba 2-1 and moved a step closer to promotion to Argentina's first division league.
Independiente and Instituto de Cordoba played Sunday on the second-to-last matchday of Primera B, the second division of Argentine football, reports Xinhua.
Banfield with 77 points, and Defensa y Justicia, runner-up with 72 points, have guaranteed their promotion to the first division.
Independiente (66) and Huracan (64) will fight for the third ticket to the top league. Next week, they will play against Patronato de Parana (48) and Almirante Brown (42), respectively.
Independiente, the team from Avellaneda, a city in Greater Buenos Aires, is one of the five most popular teams of Argentina and it is the first time they are playing in the second division.
