The Indian and Pakistani Army traded heavy fire on Wednesday on the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch district.

Defence Ministry sources said the Pakistan Army resorted to unprovoked firing and shelling on the LoC using small arms, automatics and mortars to target Indian positions.

The ceasefire violation started at 5.34 a.m., the sources said.

"Indian positions are retaliating effectively. Firing exchanges were going on," the ministry sources added.
