Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal Friday urged Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to intervene in the setting up of a board to run the affairs of the Takht Sri Hazur Sahib at Nanded, in Maharashtra.
The Takht is one of the five high religious seats of the Sikh religion.
Seeking the prime minister's "personal intervention", Badal called for the constitution of a popular board in place of the administrator at present.
He said the gurdwara was a Sikh historic shrine associated with the tenth Sikh Guru, Gobind Singh.
In a letter to the prime minister, Badal said a special leave petition filed by a party against an earlier order of the Bombay High Court, was dismissed by the Supreme Court.
The Bombay High Court had directed the Maharashtra government to initiate action by taking steps to constitute a board for the shrine.
Urging Manmohan Singh to resolve the issue, Badal said this would safeguard the interests of the Sikh community in Maharashtra.
Badal also wrote another letter in this regard to his Maharashtra counterpart, Prithviraj Chavan.
