Adopting an inclusive approach in education, the Jadavpur University here has included a separate column for the third gender in its admission forms for this year, an official said.
"We have put in a separate column in the admission forms this year for the members of third gender. They can now express their status officially," registrar P.K. Ghosh told IANS.
He said in the admission form, in addition to male and female, there is a spot for transgender/transsexual.
In a landmark ruling last year, the Supreme Court recognised transgenders as the third gender.
It directed the government to extend them reservations in the Bbackward Class category in jobs and education, and provide them healthcare. The apex court held that the third gender enjoyed all the rights under the Constitution.
