YSR Congress party president Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy and his mother Y. S. Vijayamma Saturday resigned from Lok Sabha and Andhra Pradesh assembly respectively to protest the manner in which Congress divided the state by deciding to carve out a separate Telangana.

Jagan, as Kadapa MP is popularly known, faxed his resignation to Lok Sabha speaker while Vijaymma sent her resignation to assembly speaker, said party MP M. Rajamohan Reddy, who had already quit.

Jagan is lodged in Chanchalguda central jail here for more than a year in disproportionate assets case. Vijaymma, who is also the honorary president of the party, is the last party legislator to quit.

Last month, 16 legislators, all belonging to Seemandhra (Rayalaseema and Andhra regions) had submitted their resignations to assembly speaker.

Their resignations came a few days before United progressive Alliance (UPA) and Congress Working Committee (CWC) resolved to carve out separate Telangana state on July 30.

Following the mass resignations, YSR Congress faced a revolt in Telangana, where all its top leaders quit, accusing the leadership of taking anti-Telangana stand.

Rajamohan Reddy told reporters that unable to fight Jagan politically, the Congress and Telugu Desam Party (TDP) were staging dramas.

Another party leader M. V. Mysoora Reddy alleged that Congress party was dividing the state for votes and seats. "Without showing any solution, it has divided the state. We want a solution acceptable to all," he said.
