Jamaican sprinter Fraser-Pryce chasing new 100m mark in Zurich

With another World Championship gold medal safely under her belt, Jamaican sprinter Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce will be eyeing a personal best in the 100 metres, when she competes at the athletics Diamond League here on Thursday.

The 28-year-old was crowned the 100m World champion at the athletics World Championships in Beijing, China, last week and has now set her sights on lowering her national record of 10.70 seconds, which she posted three years ago in her hometown Kingston, reports CMC.

Fraser-Pryce said she was expecting strong competition especially coming out of the Beijing showpiece but was just focussed on achieving a personal best.

"The championships have finished and this is a new race. Many of them (rivals) are coming here having had disappointments coming into this race and there are things they want to get right here," she said.

"However, I am looking forward to running a personal best, and hopefully I can do it here."

Fraser-Pryce was outstanding in Beijing, clocking 10.76 seconds to win gold and boost her impressive collection to three World Championship gold and two Olympic titles.

On Thursday, she will face the likes of Nigerian Blessing Okagbare, fellow Jamaican Veronica Campbell-Brown and Trinidadian Kelly Baptiste, in what is expected to be a competitive dash.

Fraser-Pryce, a fan favourite at most venues on the international circuit, said she was looking forward to the outing at Zurich's Letzigrund stadium.

"Outside of Jamaica, and a major event like the World Championships or Olympic Games, there isn't anywhere louder with the fans all cheering and banging on the sides of the track."
