Jamia VC in expert panel on backwardness

Jamia Millia Islamia Vice Chancellor Najeeb Jung has been nominated to the expert committee that will prepare a report on backwardness in Indian states, officials said Thursday.

"The vice chancellor, Jamia Millia Islamia, has been nominated to the expert committee for evolving a composite development index of states, which has been constituted by the (union) ministry of finance," a Jamia statement said.

"The expert committee will consider backwardness of the states when compared to the national average under criteria such as per capita income and other human development indicators and for evolving a composite development index of states," added the statement.

The committee has been given two months time to submit its report.
