Jammu and Kashmir Police and the CRPF gunned down the two terrorists who attacked a police station in Jammu, in which two policemen were killed, Home Minister Rajnath Singh said on Friday.
Sharing the details of the Friday morning incident, Rajnath Singh told the Lok Sabha: "I want to inform the house that at 6.30 this (Friday) morning, terrorists killed a sentry at the police station's guard post and entered inside the station in Jammu and Kashmir's Kathua district."
"Based on the latest information, Jammu and Kashmir Police force and the CRPF (Central Reserve Police Force) personnel successfully encountered both terrorists in a retaliatory operation," he added.
The home minister said that two police officers and seven jawans of the CRPF were injured, besides a civilian.
The police station, situated on National Highway-1, is 15 km north of the city of Kathua and 15 km east of the international border, Rajnath Singh said.
The minister was responding to a question raised by Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge inquiring the reason for such recurring incidents in the state.
Rajnath Singh appreciated the courage demonstrated by the police force and the CRPF in the "successful" operation.
Paying respects to the fallen police officers and the civilian, he said: "We share the grief of the families of the police officers and the civilian who were killed by the terrorists."
Earlier Friday, Rajnath Singh also spoke to Jammu and Kashmir Police chief and asked Home Secretary L.C. Goyal to monitor the situation, official sources said.
