Japan PM to attend Lee Kuan Yew's funeral

Japan Prime Minister Shinzo Abe will visit Singapore on March 29 to attend the state funeral of former Singapore prime minister and its founding father Lee Kuan Yew, the government said on Friday.

Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga announced the prime minister's trip to the country at a press briefing, Xinhua reported.

According to reports, other regional leaders will also attend the funeral.

Lee, 91, died on March 23.

He served as the prime minister of Singapore from 1965 to 1990, and later served as a senior minister and minister mentor after stepping down from the first chair.
