Junaid Azam Mattu of the Peoples Conference (PC) was on Tuesday elected as the mayor of Srinagar.

According to poll officials, Mattu received 40 votes while his Congress rival got 26 votes, while four votes were declared invalid.

Mattu, who was the spokesman of the National Conference (NC), defected from the party following its decision to boycott the municipal polls in Jammu and Kashmir.

PC is headed by former Minister Sajad Gani Lone.
