Calcutta High Court judge C.S. Karnan, sentenced to jail for six months by the Supreme Court, may be headed to the temple town of Srikalahasti in Andhra Pradesh.
According to officials, Justice Karnan is no more at the State Guest House in Chennai where he checked in on Tuesday. But he has not officially vacated the room and his bill remains to be settled.
An official at the Srikalahasti temple told IANS that the judge was scheduled to reach the town on Wednesday evening and offer prayers the next morning.
Officials said two other advocates who came with the judge have been asked to vacate their rooms in the Chennai guest house.
The apex court ordered the Director General of West Bengal Police to set up a team to implement its arrest order "forthwith".
Justice Karnan was found guilty of contempt for hurling corruption charges against Supreme Court judges including the Chief Justice.
