The son of Kim Jong-nam, the slain half brother of North Korea's leader, has emerged on YouTube amid concerns about of his family's safety, Yonhap news agency reported.

"My name is Kim Han-sol from North Korea, part of the Kim family," he said in English in an online video clip loaded on Tuesday, suggesting he is a descendant of North Korea's family that has ruled North Korea for three generations.

"My father was killed a few days ago," he added.

In the 40-second video, Kim said he was currently with his mother and sister, expressing hope that the situation would get better soon.

He showed his official passport to reveal his identity, but the video did not disclose the details of the passport.

South Korea's intelligence authorities confirmed that the man in the footage is Kim Han-sol.

The video was reportedly made days after Kim Jong-nam, the estranged half brother of the North's ruler Kim Jong-un, was assassinated at an airport in Malaysia.

Kim was killed on February 13 at Kuala Lumpur International Airport after two women allegedly smeared the banned chemical weapon VX nerve agent on his face.

Following the incident, the whereabouts of Kim's family members have not been known amid speculation that they may be staying somewhere in Macau under China's protection.

North Korea accused Malaysia of colluding with South Korea to manipulate its probe into the case. Pyongyang claimed that the dead man is Kim Chol, the name on a passport held by Kim Jong-nam.

Malaysian police earlier said that Kim Jong-nam's next of kin should come forward to identify and claim his body but no family members have shown up.
