Spanish BBVA Primera Liga side Las Palmas named Quique Setien as their new coach on Monday, hours after they sacked Paco Herrera.

With this announcement, they became the first club in their division to sack their coach this season, reported Xinhua.

The decision comes on the back of Sunday's 0-4 defeat to Getafe, which left the side from the Canary Islands bottom of the table with just one win and five points from eight matches.

The communique posted on the Las Palmas website commented that the club had taken a decision because it was looking for "a change" and thanked the man who last season led them to promotion to the Spanish top-flight for his "dedication and loyalty," while wishing him luck in the future.

Herrera can count himself very unlucky to have been sacked so early in the season, especially as his side had shown some moments of good football with a limited squad and limited financial resources.

Setien meanwhile is perhaps best remembered for his spells as a highly talented player for Racing Santander, Atletico Madrid and Logrones. After ending his playing career he coached several sides including Racing and Logrones and spent six seasons with Lugo.

He also coached Equatorial Guinea's national team but this will be his first experience in Primera.
