A film is not a one-man show, but the output of a team and, therefore, it's important to compromise wherever needed, says first time director R.S. Durai Senthil Kumar, whose debut Tamil film "Ethir Neechal", released recently.
"It's easy to get carried away after you don the hat of a director. But, a film is not a one-man show, it's a team effort and, therefore, it's important to compromise especially as a debutant to work in unison towards a common goal," Senthil told IANS.
"I'm sure every debutant director would have come across the need to compromise while working on his or her film. Those who co-operated would have evolved successfully, while the rest may have become history," he added.
Did you compromise while working on "Ethir Neechal"?
"Yes, I did to some extent because I was working with senior technicians and artists and sometimes, you have to give preference to seniority even if you don't like it. I learnt all this because I worked as an assistant director for 10 years," Senthil added.
He worked as assistant director to Balu Mahendra and Vetrimaaran.
Senthil admits at times compromising won't result in a win-win situation.
"Not all compromises will make both parties happy, but it's important to come to a consensus because it eventually affects the output of the film. Especially, as a debutant, one needs make some sacrifices for greater good," he added.
"Ethir Neechal" is produced by Dhanush and features Sivakarthikeyan, Priya Anand, Nandita and Jayaprakash.
