Jharkhand Governor Draupadi Murmu on Saturday appealed to the people of the state to leave superstitions beliefs and donate eyes.

Addressing people during the 'Run for Vision 2017' organised here by Kashyap Eye Memorial Hospital, she said: "Human body is a gift of God and different body parts have their own usage. Everyone is aware of the importance of sight and need to understand the sufferings of a person who cannot see."

Appreciating those who have donated their eyes, the Governor said: "One should leave superstitious beliefs and donate eyes so that people who cannot see the world can get vision."

Murmu lauded the awareness programme organised to create awareness about eye donation. "There are about 75,000 primitive tribes whose children are suffering from malnutrition which causes eyesight-related issues."

Speaking on the occasion, Founder Director of the eye hospital Bharti Kashyap said: "We are organising 'Run for Vision' for last 13 years to promote eye donation. We are organising this in association with the Welfare Department of the state among tribal and Schedule Caste areas. We have checked eyes of 1,700 children and provided eye glasses to 402 children free of cost."
