The 2019 Pan American Games in Lima will be the best edition of the event, organising Committee Chairman Luis Salazar has said.
"Besides the infrastructure, we have two major factors: Peruvians are warm and they will make people feel at home, and we also have a fine culinary culture," Efe news quoted Salazar as saying on Friday.
Salazar, who is attending the 2016 Olympic Games, said Peru's new President, Pedro Pablo Kuczynski, has thrown his full support behind the Pan American Games project.
"We hope to finish construction of the facilities by December 2018 or January 2019," he said.
The 2019 Pan American Games are expected to cost roughly $1.2 billion, with roughly 65 per cent of the total earmarked for infrastructure, including new venues for aquatics and gymnastics.
