The bodies of a couple said to be in love against the will of their parents was recovered from the outskirts of the state capital Thursday, police said.
The 16-year-old girl was shot dead and Rajjan, 22, was found hanging from a tree in lalkheda village in Banthara area. A country-made pistol was recovered from the spot.
While police suspect that Rajjan first killed the girl and then hanged himself, the family of the youth allege this is a case of honour killing, executed by the girl's family.
Police officer Harendra Kumar told IANS that Rajjan and the girl were in love for the past two years.
Villagers told police that the girl's family resisted the relationship, saying she was a Class 12 student.
Investigating officials said the bodies have been sent for an autopsy and they are interrogating the family members.
