Former Uruguay international captain Diego Lugano is on track to return from injury for Sao Paulo's Copa Libertadores quarterfinal second leg against Atletico Mineiro.
The 35-year-old has not played since tearing his left hamstring on April 17, reports Xinhua.
He returned to training on Saturday although he took part only in light ball work away from the main group.
The Folha de S.Paulo newspaper said on Saturday that Lugano had taken an "important step" to be fit for the match in Belo Horizonte on May 18.
But the former Fenerbahce and Paris Saint-Germain defender is expected to miss the first leg on May 11.
Lugano has made nine appearances for Sao Paulo since rejoining his former club from Paraguay's Cerro Porteno in January.
Sao Paulo are aiming to win the Copa Libertadores - South America's version of the European champions league - for a fourth time.
