Madrid eliminated from 2020 Olympics host race

Madrid was eliminated from the race to host the 2020 Olympic Games after the first round of voting by International Olympic Committee (IOC) members here Saturday.

Both Madrid and Istanbul were tied after the first round, which meant Tokyo topped the round, reports Xinhua.

It had to be put to a second vote to decide which city went out.

Istanbul then, garnered 49 of the 94 votes cast to remain in contention.

IOC President Jacques Rogge will announce the winner later Saturday.
