Real Sociedad took advantage of a listless Malaga side to post a 2-0 victory to claim fifth place in La Liga football standings.
The hosts were sloppy from the start in front of a crowd of 20,000 at La Rosaleda here on Monday, yet the better organised visiting team was unable to capitalise in the course of a first half distinctly lacking in excitement, reports Efe.
But in the 49th minute, Inigo Martinez's free kick deflected off a Malaga defender and sailed into the net past goalkeeper Kameni, who was caught far off his line.
The unexpected setback left the home side thoroughly demoralised and they conceded a second goal in the 61st minute to former Malaga player Juanmi.
Real Sociedad moved up to 32 points from 18 matches. Malaga, with 21 points, are at 13th spot.
