A 27-year-old youth was arrested on Monday for allegedly slashing two young women with blades within four days, police said.
Shibu Biswas, a resident of Baranagar, attacked a girl close to her residence on Thursday night.
"I didn't know him. I don't know the person. I saw him standing with his bicycle in front of my house. Suddenly he came close and tried to touch me. When I shouted, he slashed below my ear with something sharp and fled," said the victim, a college student, who had to undergo 11 stitches.
On Monday, Biswas attacked another girl in a similar manner.
With two such incidents taking place in the area, police began a manhunt and arrested Biswas from his residence.
"He has confessed his crimes. He will be produced in the court on Tuesday," said an officer of Baranagar police station.
