A young man accused of trying to kidnap a child hanged himself in a police lockup Wednesday, officials said.
Wasim, said to be around 25 years old and a resident of Chilli village in Palwal district of Haryana, committed suicide in the Sohna police station lockup.
He was nabbed by people Tuesday when he allegedly tried to kidnap the minor son of his former employer in Sohna, 26 km from Gurgaon.
He was later handed over to the police who booked him for the kidnapping attempt.
Wasim Wednesday tore a strip from the blanket he was provided in the lockup and hanged himself, police said.
His family members alleged foul play and demanded a post-mortem examination.
A magistrate later recorded the statements of the family members.
