A man has been charged with murdering Indian waiter Surjit Singh Chhokar in Overtown, in Scotland's North Lanarkshire council area, 16 years back, media reported Friday.
Ronnie Coulter, 46, from Wishaw appeared in court, charged with the 1998 murder of Surjit Singh Chhokar, BBC reported.
Coulter, however, made no plea or declaration during a private hearing at the Hamilton Sheriff Court Thursday and was released on bail.
Last month, judges gave prosecutors permission to retry Coulter over the fatal stabbing of the Sikh waiter.
However, the judges ruled that two other accused -- Andrew Coulter, 33, and David Montgomery, 37 -- could not face trial for a second time.
All the three men were earlier cleared of murdering Chhokar in 1998.
