A man beat his younger brother to death with an iron rod in a fit of anger over the latter's illicit relations with his wife here, police said on Monday.
Police said the incident took place in the wee hours of Monday morning in Chawwla area.
The deceased, Rakesh Kumar, 23, was hit with an iron rod by his elder brother Pramod, 25 in South West district.
"The local police was informed about the murder at around 3.40 a.m. Pramod was arrested from the spot," Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Surender Kumar told IANS.
Pramod told police that when he woke up around 3 a.m., he did not find his wife in the room. He went in search of her but could not find her.
He knocked on the door of Rakesh's room, and there was no answer for a long time. He suspected that his wife was inside. When he kept knocking on the door, Rakesh opened the door and Pramod found his wife inside his room, Kumar said.
Pramod lost his temper and attacked Rakesh repeatedly on his head with an iron rod. Rakesh was brought declared dead to a nearby hospital, the DCP said.
Pramod's father is a labour contractor. Pramod and his four brothers, including Rakesh, worked with their father.
